Preparation for care home staff

Whether your staff are directly employed, or from an agency, there is plenty you can do as a care manager to help prepare them for their vaccinations.

Support staff, including new staff, to have their vaccination, and help them prepare by talking about it. Make sure they know they can book an appointment, or simply turn up at any vaccination site with their staff ID. You can also prepare a letter for each staff member, confirming their employment in the care.

Consider the logistics of releasing staff to have their vaccination, while maintaining staffing levels within the home.

As well as the resources in this pack, such as the FAQs, these videos might help you in discussions with your staff:

In several areas, there is a drive to make clinical 1-1 support available to any care home, agency or social care staff member who wants to speak to a clinician in confidence about getting the vaccine.

Ask your local authority or Care Home GP if they are aware of this kind of provision locally. Keep checking regularly, as this level of support is still being established in some areas.
