Strategy development

This page highlights the importance of developing an effective workforce strategy that supports better physical health care for people with serious mental illness.

Recommended actions to take

  • Develop a workforce strategy that includes the full breadth of the workforce. Outline innovative and inclusive approaches that optimise a range of methods. These methods include awareness raising campaigns, inter-professional training, greater use of self-management tools and cross-sector skills sharing.
  • Support the development of a shift in culture and capacity to meet the needs of those living with serious mental illness (SMI). Consider leadership, governance, workforce planning and training.
