Deliver the strategy

This page highlights the importance of leveraging other organisation-wide strategies to implement better integration of physical and mental healthcare for people with serious mental illness.

Recommended actions to take

Develop your organisational implementation plan

  • Link the strategy that specifically addresses serious mental illness (SMI) inequalities to existing quality, safety and governance structures. This includes serious untoward incident management and quality initiatives, such as safe staffing, the productive ward and organisational quality improvement programmes.
  • Plan, invest in and implement changes to key enablers that underpin effective delivery. Enablers include information technology (IT) and digital maturity, workforce indicators, data and risk stratification tools and operational structures. Include leadership and reporting lines (team-based designated physical health leads) and cross-sector care pathways.
