All health professionals need to have the competence, knowledge, skills and the confidence to care and treat children and young people with respiratory disease.
Therefore, commissioners and providers, and Health Education England need to work together to understand the competency, capability and capacity of the workforce and to plan for future workforce demands.
The appropriate numbers of training placements and educational packages for future needs must ensure that there will be enough staff with the appropriate skills to care to ensure a sustainable change programme. Education, service delivery and improvement go hand in hand. This involves undertaking training needs analysis to ensure training meets population requirements and that education commissioned is appropriate.
