A report on phase one of a rotational nursing programme involving Health Based Place of Safety sites and Emergency Departments and the lessons learnt.
In 2017, our Mental Health Crisis Care programme supported four London mental health trusts that have dedicated Health Based Place of Safety staff teams to win for funding from Health Education England to set up innovative rotational nursing programmes for staff at A&Es and Health Based Place of Safety sites.
The aim was for nursing staff to experience shifts in both settings to develop their physical and mental health care skills. The training also aimed to enable both settings’ staff to work better together to provide the best care for crisis care patients.
So far the benefits of these programmes include preventing unnecessary A&E transfers and better partnership working between Health Based Place of Safety sites and A&Es for integrated physical and mental health care.
