Transformation Partners in Health and Care > Resources > Cancer rehabilitation pathways service improvement tools

The Transforming Cancer Services Team for London (TSCT) has developed a suite of service improvement tools for cancer rehabilitation as part of a project funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The tools have been designed to help cancer rehabilitation services evaluate the care they provide. They were created through extensive consultation with stakeholders, with service users’ voices at the heart of the work.

Designed to be used together, the tools outline a clear framework for what good quality cancer rehabilitation looks like. The tools were piloted in London and can be used to:

  • Support service improvement
  • Raise the profile of cancer rehabilitation services
  • Engage with commissioners.

The Service improvement tools for cancer rehabilitation report explains how the tools were developed and piloted. It also highlights the key benefits of the tools for service providers, patients and service users and commissioners.

How to use the tools

The service provider tool is designed to be completed by providers of cancer rehabilitation services to help evaluate the care they provide. We recommend the form is used in a team setting and it should take no longer than 30-45 minutes to complete. After completing the tool, an action plan should be generated. We recommend the tool is used every 3-6 months to review progress and celebrate successes. The tools are also available on the Macmillan Cancer Support website.

There are two versions of the tool. You can print it off in Word format or download it as an Excel spreadsheet. We recommend you use the Excel spreadsheet.

The service user tool is designed to be completed by users of cancer rehabilitation services and should be used alongside the provider tool. We recommend the tool is printed off and given to a selection of patients . We recommend feedback is then compiled and discussed by the team.  Analysis of the data can be done on the Excel spreadsheet which can be downloaded using the link below.

Feedback

We are continuing to evaluate these tools and welcome feedback about how they are being used. We have created an online survey and a printable evaluation form to capture your thoughts and feedback on these tools. We would be grateful if you could evaluate the tools after each use and we will use your comments to make improvements and refine the tools.
