The National Clinical Audit is a yearly survey conducted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists that evaluates services against national clinical standards for Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) teams. The London EIP Improvement Programme hosted an event with all London EIP services on Thursday 26 September 2019 with Paul French (Clinical Lead of the National Clinical Audit from RCPsych) and Jonathan West (Chair of the London EIP Clinical Reference Group) to discuss the results of the most recent Audit.,
The event was a mix of presentations, networking and lively debate on London’s audit results. The audit shows there is still progress to be made with those present sharing ideas and innovations to support service improvement. Our lived experience delegates offered a valued sense check of ideas and highlighted their priority areas, prevention, a greater focus working with young people, families and schools and a broader focus on physical health and well-being.
The 53 per cent target of people presenting with a first episode of psychosis starting treatment within two weeks has been exceeded with the 78 per cent of people being assessed and offered treatment within two weeks. The audit results shows that 96 per cent of teams across London have been rated as ‘top performers’ in their core offer of cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis.
The audit cycle starts again on the 1 October 2019 and we hope to see teams maintain their progress and show improvements in areas of greatest need.
