Richmond Carers Centre: supporting young carers in schools

In the UK as a whole, there are around 400,000 young carers between 0-24 years who care for an adult or family member. In London alone, this figure is estimated to be around 1.1 per cent of the population – just under 100,000 young people.

Research shows that young carers are more likely to experience health, social, educational and employment inequalities, such as missing school, bullying, having special educational needs or a disability and mental health problems.

Our project aims to improve the identification, recognition and understanding of the needs of young carers, raise the profile of young carers in schools and ensure that their health and care needs are met.
