Transformation Partners in Health and Care > News > Improving health outcomes for London’s babies, children and young people

In February 2022, the London Babies, Children and Young People (BCYP) Improvement Collaborative was established, launching a two-year multiagency programme of work. The BCYP Improvement Collaborative is delivered in partnership by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), NHS England – London’s Babies, Children and Young People’s (BCYP) Transformation team, and Integrated Care System (ICS) leadership.

The collaborative provides local leaders, teams and coaches the opportunity to develop improvement knowledge and skills, and to apply this to priority areas in London’s five newly formed ICSs. The primary aim of this collaborative is to improve outcomes for babies, children and young people in London, through the testing and implementation of models of integration, and help to identify the changes that are needed to improve the systems that young people interact with to better deliver for them.

The IHI and BCYP teams have been working with London’s ICSs to deliver a bespoke programme of Learning Sessions and in-between action periods to create the conditions to drive improvements in each ICS, and the implementation of integrated care service delivery in all five ICSs, co-produced with local teams, parents, carers and young people. This work has built momentum throughout its first year with event attendance spanning professions, boroughs and organisations across London.

Reflecting on this milestone, Jane Clegg, Regional Chief Nurse for NHS England – London said:
”The BCYP collaborative has given teams in each of London’s ICSs the opportunity to come together with our expert IHI partners to spend valuable time on planning and implementing improvements in services for babies, children and young people – together”.

To mark the halfway point of the collaborative, the IHI has published a year one highlights report, sharing some of the progress made during the collaborative’s exciting first year since February 2022, and lays out ambitions for the collaborative’s positive impacts for young people in London going forward to 2023, 2024 and beyond.
