IAPT Hackathon; the digital case for a happier London

26th February 2018

On 6 February 2018, health and care professionals from across London came together for a digital hackathon to explore ways to use digital innovations to improve access to psychological therapies and outcomes in mental health care.

A huge case exists for improving access to psychological therapies and as such Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) have been tasked with increasing the number of Londoners accessing treatments from 153,000 to 260,000 by 2021.

The hackathon was facilitated by digital transformation experts, ATOS, who helped guide discussions about the ways digital platforms can be used to contribute to IAPT access targets by offering online monitoring, data access and capture, using data more intelligently and for designing personalised care.

The hackathon guests also heard from a panel of experts made up of representatives from London’s Good Thinking, clinical leads, London’s Health and Care Information Exchange and the Rand Corporation.

During the day, hackathon attendees were split into four groups. The groups were tasked with selecting their target audience, identifying their segments likely concerns and behaviours and developing a ‘typical’ journey map for their current management and access to services. Lastly, they were asked to find possible solutions for how problems they faced could be solved through IAPT.

The hackathon was a great experience for everyone involved, with a really positive outcome for the team to take away the learning and develop an outline business case and programme plan to take the work forward.
