As part of last year’s London Health Board conference, Healthy London Partnership travelled around the capital to meet up with teams across health and social care who are breaking down barriers to deliver the best possible services for Londoners.
Havering Dementia Action Alliance
Havering has the largest population of people aged 65 and over in London and figures indicate that there are over 3,000 people living with dementia in the borough.
Havering Dementia Action Alliance is an initiative which brings together voluntary and other organisations working to improve the lives of people who have dementia. The Alliance aims to make the lives of those people and their carers better.
By encouraging all areas of the community to make simple changes, the Alliance hopes to remove the difficulties being experienced in everyday life by people with dementia and their carers.
The Havering Dementia Action Alliance is part of the national initiative by the Alzheimer’s Society. There is an Independent Chair and the London Borough of Havering support the work of the Alliance by funding the Coordinator post and developing dementia champions within many departments.
There has been great support by businesses and organisations in Havering and as a result the borough has been granted the status of ‘Dementia Friendly Borough’ by the Alzheimer’s Society.
Watch our short film with those involved with empowering their community and local organisations to improve the borough for those affected by dementia.
